Behavior of RC Framed Structures subjected to Recorded and Spectrum Compatible Ground Motions: A Numerical Study

Abstract :

For certain studies, it is an exercise to use ground motions in the form of design response spectra. Hence, it is also agreeable to use ground motions that are compatible to design response spectrum. Objective of the present study is to determine the effects of recorded and Spectrum Compatible Ground Motions (SCGMs) on the response of three numerically modeled reinforced concrete frame buildings S1, S2, and S3; having varied time periods to moderately match the predominant range of acceleration, velocity, and displacement of IS 1893 (Part1): 2002 Design Response Spectrum. Set of three recorded accelerograms and the same compatible to design spectra are used for linear time history analysis. Finally, it is concluded that the effects of SCGMs specify limits to the structure, beyond which the structure may draw more damage and fail.
