Abstract :

In this paper, an artificial bee colony optimization algorithm is developed to solve environment dispatch problem. Artificial bee colony is a relatively new stochastic algorithm with competitive performance and minimal tuning parameter. With increased requirements for environmental protection, alternative strategies are required. The proposed optimization algorithm attempts to reduce the production of atmospheric emissions such as so2, caused by the operation of fossil-fueled thermal generation. Artificial bee colony algorithm is a recently proposed optimization technique which simulates the intelligent foraging behavior of honey bees. A set of honey bees is called swarm which can successfully accomplish tasks through social cooperation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested on standard IEEE 30-bus system and is compared with previous published paper. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for solving the emission constrained problem.
