Abstract :

The vehicle crash box is a device provided almost in all vehicles today which serves as a safety improver during vehicle dashing. It is found that the sudden front collision to vehicle causes a great damage to the vehicle also to the passengers. The kinetic energy at the time of collision get transferred to the vehicle parts and causes more damage to the same. Hence it is desired that the energy during the collision is to be absorbed in order to reduce the collision effect. To absorb this energy a crash box plays an important role. It is found that the geometry and material used is an important factor while designing a crash box. By varying material and geometrical parameters the energy absorption property can be vary. Therefore author proposes a comparative analysis with four different model of crash box having different shape using ANSYS and the optimum design of crash box is proposed which has maximum energy absorption for the same impact loading condition.
